At the end of April two teams of students from Year 12 took part in the Young Enterprise Company Programme, which is a national competition which allows students to set up and run their own business.
The students make all the decisions about their company, from raising the initial share capital through to designing their product or service to selling directly to customers and ultimately winding up the company and paying their taxes. They are supported by business advisors who volunteer to help with the programme.
The companies this year were called Zoom and Neon. Zoom set up a business running a photo booth service, while Neon developed a children’s cookbook.
Zoom were particularly successful in the Chichester and Arun District, winning five awards in total: including: Best Company, Best Business Plan, Best Trade Stand, Best Presentation, Best Reports and Accounts
Team Zoom was made up of five students: Finn Waldron (12Otter) – Managing Director, Joe White (12Otter), Joe Sissons (12King), Tom Dawtrey (12King), and Theo Kent (12Ridgeway). They were greatly supported by their Business Advisor David Thurlow.
The team are now going to the Sussex Finals in Brighton to represent the Chichester and Arun area.
